Chipotle Lichtenhainer | Freetail Brewing Co.
ABV: 4.5%
IBU: 5
Style: Smoked Beer
Actively Produced
Description: Winner of 2012 Alamo City Cerveza Fest Funkiest of Show brewed by Austin Zealot Club Member, 2012 Ninkasi Award Winner, 2009 Funkiest of Show winner, Beardiest of Show Hall of Famer, and all around cool dude Mark Schoppe. Our Lichtenhainer is a non-traditional interpretation of a forgotten traditional-style from Germany. This passage from "Die Bierbrauerei", 1915, by Rommel and Fehmann says: "Lichtenhainer is also a pale beer brewed from lightly smoked malt, though only barley malt is used. The approximately 8º Plato wort is very lightly hopped and only boiled very briefly and exposed to either a spontaneously appearing or deliberately started lactic acid bacteria infection that gives the beer it's weakly sour taste. The mostly young beer, which isn't expected to be clear, is usually served from a barrel. "
